In 1983 a southeastern Pennsylvania landscaper came up with an idea for a perfect seedbed tiller.
This tiller would need to travel faster than a rototiller, move
more dirt and be able to level grade. He wanted it to sift rocks from the
soil and sort them into a windrow. He planned to use a machine with a rotating
drum with teeth, set at
an angle
behind the tractor. The rotating drum would till the soil and push dirt ahead,
while the angle would move rocks off to the side—all in one pass.
The landscaper made a prototype and the Preseeder landscaping tiller was born.
Superior Design
What makes the Preseeder lanscaping tiller better than the rest? The
Preseeder landscaping tiller was designed from the beginning as a landscaping tiller,
not just a rock rake. It's built to produce the best possible seedbed at
just the right depth.
 |
- Peaked tungsten-carbide teeth are more aggressive and longer wearing.
- On-the-go depth adjustments
- Rotor design generates an aggressive tilling action—perfect for grass
root development. This soil agitation breaks up hardpan and dirt clods
and shaves off the high grade. It also moves soil in front of the machine
to fill in low spots.
- Rear roller—not caster wheels. The rear roller firms the seedbed,
making it stable enough to drive over for seed application while preventing
erosion. In addition, the finished seedbed is free from tire tracks.
The weight of the machine rides on the roller, which is attached to
the depth control cylinder. Instant depth changes are at your fingertips.
- Compact design permits easier maneuvering in tight areas. The multi-position
hitch adapts the Preseeder landscaping tiller to the tractor being
used. Keeping the tiller close to the tractor aids stability.
- Protective rubber shielding encloses the rotor. The result is two-fold:
1) less airborne dust leaves a cleaner operator and job-site; 2) rocks
and stones are kept out of the operator’s area.

Four Models to Choose From
ATI Corporation offers four different models of Preseeder landscaping
tillers, ranging from the Walk Behind Model 365 to the top-of-the-line
model 805 with carbide teeth. Each Preseeder is made with the finest materials
and a strict attention to detail. Great advances have been made in the engineering,
ease of use and ruggedness of the Preseeder over its 20 year lifespan. Preseeder
landscaping tillers are built to last--and it shows.
What are the benefits of the carbide tooth?
Our Kennametal-brand tungsten-carbide teeth are unique. They are also more expensive than the standard AR400 teeth. Which teeth should you choose? Three strong arguments can be made in favor of the Tungsten-Carbide option.
- Longer tooth life = Less downtime. More time spent in the field, less time on maintenance. After several years of use our initial customers are citing 700%+ more life than the standard AR400 teeth. That's value.
- Aggressive tooth design does more work on each pass. The conical design
of the tungsten-carbide tooth body offers more wear surface at the base, where “washout” is
the most critical. This cone-shape also prevents stones from jamming the machine.
The peaked tip is much more aggressive than a “bullet” tip. It will rip into
hard soils and break up clods with ease. The tungsten-carbide teeth that Kennametal
supplies ATI Corporation with are amazingly resistant to chipping and splitting,
not surprising considering they are based on mining tooth material.
- Get in the ground when the conditions are less than ideal. Our customers tell us that the tungsten-carbide teeth are more forgiving in wet soil. Less plugging in the wet clay combined with more aggressive dry soil tilling means that you have more uptime.
